The sphinx was resolved to remain stoic in the face of adversity; she explained this in some depth to the blackbird, that legendary stealer-of-noses of nursery rhyme fame.
this is so fun - my uncle always always used to do that to me and I always touched my face to check my nose was still there because he used to pull quite hard!
